You are crouching in the smallest crack possible, hiding from the horrors that live in these dusty caves - and which you escaped barely. Suddenly a noise only feet away! You hold your breath, you don’t move an inch. There it is. One of the creatures living down here caught up. You can barely see it in the darkness. Slowly it comes closer to your position. Suddenly a harsh light pierces through the darkness! It is your friend searching for you. The eyes of the creature are now glued on your friend. And your friend instantly fell silent, seemingly shocked by the horror in front of him. What now?

---

I had the idea for this underground creature when I looked at some photos of deep sea fishes. “Why not simply moving this thing out of the water?” I thought. What you see here is the result of this idea.

I started with a very basic standard head model and worked on it until it resembled my vision quite closely. Then I added a basic body and modified it, too. After merging both I moved the final model into my digital sculpting tool and refined everything. Basically I did the same with the rocks.

Post production was bigger this time, again, placing everything in separate layers while adding many more to finalize the image.

By the way: Originally I planned to use some of the color schemes seen in THE DESCENT, yet the result was so yellow I would have lost the purple-ish color of the skin.
